Kingston Joinery

Project of the Horry County Historical Society

Preserving Early American Craftsmanship

Kingston Joinery is dedicated to keeping the woodworking traditions of early America alive. Every piece crafted inside the workshop is built using methods practiced between 1760 to the 1860s — a time when furniture was shaped entirely by hand, with skill passed down from master to apprentice.

A Working Museum in the Heart of Conway

Visitors can watch furniture being made the same way it was over 200 years ago. The workshop operates as a living museum, demonstrating period‑accurate joinery, hand‑cut dovetails, mortise and tenons, traditional finishes, and the careful shaping of raw lumber into heirloom‑quality pieces.

Handmade Furniture, Built the Traditional Way

All furniture is crafted entirely by hand using traditional tools — planes, chisels, saws, braces, and scrapers. No modern power tools are used. Each board is shaped with patience and skill, resulting in furniture that is both historically faithful and built to last for generations.
Furniture is made for demonstration purposes and items are not for sale.

Open to the Community

Kingston Joinery is open on Mondays from 10:00am to 3:00pm and welcomes walk‑ins and encourages visitors to explore the workshop, ask questions, and learn about the history of American woodworking. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a woodworker, or simply curious, the shop offers a warm and educational experience for all ages.
